The Kraken bottle stands out on the shelf. Combine the double hoop handles with the black and white label of a Kraken dragging a ship to its doom, and you hope you have something special in your hands (instead of a good case of marketing). The liquid in the bottle is dark black and only reveals hints of brown when it is held up to the light.
In the glass there is a strong scent of vanilla, chocolate, cinnamon and molasses. The color is a dark brown that reminded me of vanilla extract. (probably because of the strong vanilla smell)
First sip I picked up on a swirl of chocolate, plum, cloves, licorice, and cinnamon. It had a tiny burn on the finish. I experienced a plum and spices after taste.
Review: I was pleasantly surprised by this rum, and am thankful to my cousin who gave it to me as a Christmas gift. It is the first spiced rum that I will drink neat or mixed. The flavors are complex and multi-leveled with an unexpected smoothness.
